Marble is a rock that has been altered over time in response to severe pressure and heat. This is a type of metamorphic rock. Marble starts out as a soft stone made mostly of calcite, called limestone. Marble can be found in many areas around the world, from Italy to Alabama, but the most well-known marble comes from Greece and Italy, where the color is often the most desirable.

Purity is measured by the purity of a streamline color. In other words, the lack of color variation within a stone make it “purer.” Color and purity are mostly aesthetic choices for the consumer, as some people prefer the beautiful veining of other colors throughout marble, while others want the purest color of white or light color throughout the marble. What creates the colored veins throughout the marble are mineral deposits, which tend to settle into complex and connecting layers, called “veins.”

“The individuality of the marble and its veins are unique and when customers want more or less coloring and veining there is a large selection to choose from in our showroom.”

Marble comes in a wonderfully large variety of colors, including blue, pink, gray, red, purple, green, purple and yellow. Outside of its beautiful color, and translucent qualities that create depth and interest, marble is soft enough for elegant carving.
